Together with 10 other organisations from six different countries – among which PwC -  the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance coordinated the SUNFISH (SecUre iNFormation SHaring in federated heterogeneous private clouds) EU-funded project, dedicated to research and develop “Advanced Cloud Services and Infrastructure"

Following the implementation of the SUNFISH prototype into three different international use cases, the SUNFISH project hosts the SUNFISH Final Event, where its findings and achievements will be presented.  During this event in Rome on November 8th, partners from PwC and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) along with others will share lessons learned, and discuss how they worked to implement one of the most important digital transformation projects in the entire European public administration sector.

In two separate sessions during the event, partners from the PwC network will share an overview of the project, as well as their thoughts on making public/private partnerships successful. Francesco Paolo Schiavo, general director of MEF's Directorate of Information Systems and Innovation, speaking of their experiences with PwC noted:

Thanks to PwC's advice and support, we have widely opened our strategy towards innovation, in close connection with the EU view for digitalisation.  Visible changes in our organisation and our daily operation have occurred.  Moreover, we have developed new expertise in managing projects [EU funded and not] as well as in specific creative and technological areas of cloud computing and smart contracts through blockchain technology."

Speaking at the event will be Pier Carlo Padoan, the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Senatore, PwC Italy and EMEA Government & Public Sector Leader and Tom DeGarmo PwC Germany and EMEA Consulting COO among others. Ashely Unwin, PwC’s Consulting & Advisory Leader for EMEA, commenting on the project said:

"PwC has been working closely with MEF since 2011, supporting them with a wide range of organisational improvements. We are excited to be supporting them with the modernisation of the NoiPA platform.  As change agents together, PwC and MEF are implementing one of the most important digital transformation projects in the context of the entire European public administration sector and we look forward to a continued successful relationship which builds on the success of this project.”

To learn more about PwC’s role in the project, read the IDC Customer Spotlight, titled: “Delivering Civil Service Excellence in Italy: The Journey from SUNFISH to Cloudify”, which explores the journey for NoiPA's enhancement which began with an EU-funded research project led by MEF and supported by PwC. This initial project explored possible innovative solutions in part by combining the knowledge maturity reached in designing previous cloud infrastructures and the knowledge of public sector business, experience, and technology requirements. This included involving leading European universities and research centres as well as funding through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 initiative, which is dedicated to supporting research and innovation, during a time when public expenses are being cut and fewer resources are available.

Thanks to SUNFISH, Public and Private Entities can exchange data in a secure way and share their IT infrastructures, making optimisation possible. To learn more visit
