By 2021, the global traditional TV market is expected to grow at 1.3% CAGR to reach US$277.4bn. This is mainly attributable to TV subscription revenue which continues to account for the majority of global revenue -80.2% in 2016 and 84.0% in 2021. Despite strong growth overall, mature markets in Western Europe and North America are struggling for organic growth opportunities.
The Asia Pacific region will see total TV subscription revenues grow at 6.8% CAGR to US$59.5bn by 2021. Cable is the region’s overwhelmingly dominant subscription TV platform, bolstered by enormous subscriber bases in China and India. Cable will add more than 26mn households over the next five years, with 436mn subscriptions by 2021.
