Global Innovation Index 2018 - Energizing the World with Innovation
For the second year in a row, PwC's Strategy& is proud to support the Global Innovation Index (GII) as a committed Knowledge Partner. Norbert Schwieters, PwC's Global EU&R Leader, together with Barry Jaruzelski and Robert Chwalik (Strategy&) analyze today's fast evolving power industry in the GII 2018 report, "Energizing the World with Innovation," Chapter 2: "Energy For All: How Innovation Is Democratizing Electricity Production and Distribution”. In the developing world, there is a shift towards new energy sources and distribution models, since demand for electricity is high but centralized power grids are scarce, inefficient, and unreliable. Solar photovoltaics have arguably benefited the most in recent years, but technology innovation has also transformed prospects for wind energy. Read how these and other innovations in power generation and storage are creating an energy revolution across the globe, and who is investing in these projects.
Published annually since 2007, GII is a leading benchmarking tool for business executives, policy makers and others seeking insight into the state of innovation around the world. The index provides detailed metrics on innovation performance in over 120 countries and economies. The GII 2018 report identifies possible breakthroughs in fields such as energy production, storage, distribution, and consumption. It also looks at how breakthrough innovation occurs at the grassroots level and describes how small-scale renewable systems are on the rise.
