Jorge Mario Velásquez was born in Medellin, Colombia. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia. He is a Scholar of the CEO’s Management Program at Kellogg School Management and a Supply Chain Strategist at Stanford University. As a scholar in London he also obtained a specialisation degree in Industrial operations, additionally he graduated from the High Governmental Studies Program at the school of Government and Public Affairs in Universidad de los Andes.
Jorge Mario has served as CEO of Grupo Argos since April 2016. He has been part of Grupo Argos (currently the largest private industrial group of Colombia, with strategic investments in cement, energy and infrastructure and with a presence in 17 countries), for more than three decades, when he began his professional career in 1984 as an intern, being promoted to various positions that led him to serve as the CEO of Cementos Argos (cement subsidiary) in 2012, a position where he successfully led the growth strategy both locally and internationally.
