Helping unemployed tax professionals get back into the workforce

PwC Italy is working with unemployed tax professionals, to develop new digital skills to help them re-enter the workforce.

Setting the scene

Jobs are changing and fast. Many roles are disappearing altogether and new ones are springing up.

In 2019, 74% of CEOs that participated in the annual PwC Global CEO Survey indicated they are concerned about the availability of key skills to grow their business.

New world. New skills. is PwC’s focus on building the skills people need to not only survive but thrive in the digital world. And PwC is making upskilling a focus of our corporate responsibility initiatives. PwC Italy is working with unemployed tax professionals in the later stage of their careers to help them develop new skills to remain relevant in their profession and re-engage with the workforce.

How we helped

A training course was developed by PwC Italy professionals, aimed specifically for the needs of unemployed tax directors, managers and specialists.

The 2 day session focussed on developing awareness and proficiency in digital skills, with a focus on the fundamentals of data analysis and the ability to use data visualization tools. Participants were actively involved in using the tools to help build their confidence so they could use what they had learnt outside of the organised session.

Participants were also expected to present the results of their analysis to their peers, giving them the opportunity to build on their presentation and communication skills.

At PwC we believe that everyone  should be able to live, learn, work and participate in the digital age. PwC Italy’s programme is helping to create opportunities for unemployed tax professionals who may have been left behind, because they haven’t had the opportunity to develop these new skills that are required today and into tomorrow.

“Everyone of us is impacted by this incredible digital transformation: lots of jobs are being replaced by technology while many others are radically changing. Given our purpose, to build trust in society and solve important problems, I strongly believe that we have a clear responsibility in helping our customers in bridging the divide between those who are able to work in the new business as usual and those who are not. For our customers it’s no longer a training expense, it is an investment for their future and the key to success”
