2012 outlook for network decommissioning

As telecom operators around the world continue to upgrade their network technologies to improve performance and increase capacity, many of them are confronted with the challenge of maintaining multiple generations of technologies and networks. Driven by the complexity and cost of maintaining multiple technologies, as well as the need to make valuable assets occupied by older and less efficient technology available for reuse, operators have begun to prepare for the decommissioning of their older networks.

This paper reports the results of a study PwC conducted in March and April 2012 and highlights the drivers, plans, readiness, and key concerns associated with network decommissioning.
