Michael McTaggart is a partner in the Deals Group in the Toronto office, specializing in Corporate Advisory and Restructuring. Michael has extensive experience in business valuation, corporate restructuring and financial distress strategies.

Michael has been involved with numerous, large, multi-faceted restructuring engagements, insolvency assignments and stakeholder dispute resolutions.  His diverse experience includes advising companies with restructuring-related matters and distressed re-financings as well as operational and performance improvement mandates.  Michael frequently advises on restructuring assignments and value maximization strategies. 

Michael’s experience includes:

  • Developing, negotiating and implementing restructuring strategies
  • Administrating and operating financially distressed companies
  • Designing and executing financial turnaround plans
  • Formulating, evaluating and implementing creditor realization strategies
  • Analytical analysis of the trends, structures and special situations that escalate financial distress

Michael qualified as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in 2007 and a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) in 2008.  He is a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Practitioner (CIRP) and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.   In 2013, Michael was the recipient of the Jack Biddell Gold Medal in recognition of the articling member who received the highest mark on the 2013 CIRP National Insolvency Examination.

Michael currently sits on the board of Alpine Ontario Alpin a Not-for-Profit Provincial Sport organization promoting the development of recreational and competitive ski racing in Ontario.
