Financial Controller

We are actively seeking a highly motivated Financial Controller to assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with the management of the finance and investment functions within the company’s global professional liability captive insurer.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the financial reporting process, including maintenance of the general ledger system;
  • Prepare IFRS financial statements and monthly financial reports;
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for the CFO and Audit & Risk Committee;
  • Prepare annual budgets and monitor variances;
  • Manage external and internal audit processes; 
  • Manage liquidity and cash flow requirements;
  • Assist the CFO with the monitoring of investment performance and compliance with the investment policy;
  • Prepare quarterly investment reports and monitor investment metrics for CFO and Investment Committee;
  • Assist in the development, implementation and adherence of relevant financial policies and controls;
  • Monitor compliance with the regulations and guidelines of the Bermuda Insurance Act;
  • Manage the in-house finance team;
  • Maintain strong internal control procedures related to financial reporting and ensure compliance with internal policies; and
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Member of a recognised accounting body (CPA, CA, ACA, ACCA);
  • A minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience, with similar professional accounting experience within the insurance/reinsurance industry;
  • Strong and current knowledge of IFRS and in particular, its application for investments and IFRS 17 for insurance contracts;
  • Experience in investment portfolio analysis and working knowledge of various asset classes;
  • Previous experience within the insurance/reinsurance industry is necessary;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bermuda Insurance Act;
  • Proven organizational and analytical skills, ability to work independently and think critically, and a strong sense of attention to detail are essential;
  • Experience managing and coaching direct reports and other team members;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills;
  • Experience with SUN GL reporting system and ability to adapt to new software; and
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
