Group A & H Underwriter

Our client is an insurance provider to a global network of financials services firms operating in 150 territories. The company’s core business is professional indemnity insurance (D&O, E&O), but the business has recently expanded to include Employee Benefits insurance, which covers Medical, (term) Life, Disability and Accident Insurance.

The role of the underwriting team continues to expand, with additional lines of business being added and consistent focus on professionalism and quality. There is a significant amount of work involved in implementing the Employee Benefits program given the level of professionalism and demand for subject specific expertise.  In order to continue to develop and maintain the high standards of service, and to avoid over-reliance on our EB advisors, there is a need for additional resource. 

The team is headquartered in Bermuda and this role will report into the Senior Underwriter, with close working relationships with the Chief Underwriting Officer.

Overview of the role

The primary focus of the Group A & H Underwriter will be on servicing and growing the Employee Benefits business.  The primary role of the Group A & H Underwriter will be the day to day management of the Company’s’ EB program, and developing the business further by engaging new territories within the network. The postholder will also develop detailed knowledge of the other lines of business and provide broader support to the Underwriting Function.

Role responsibilities

  • Serves as the day to day EB lead contact for Member Firms
  • Serves as the day to day lead contact between the company and its EB Advisors
  • Supports the finance team with EB Reporting
  • Reviews EB underwriting submissions and recommends them to the senior underwriter or CUO for approval
  • Maintenance of underwriting function control documentation
  • Assistance in preparation of management reports
  • Assistance in preparation of presentation materials for board and committee meetings
  • Assistance with data entry and other administrative support
  • Supports the senior underwriter and CUO on other underwriting initiatives and ad-hoc projects


Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Business, Insurance or Finance preferred.

Years of Experience: 5 – 10 years+ in the corporate insurance industry, focused on life and/or medical insurance, experience being aligned with one or more of the EB programs that the company will underwrite.

Technical Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and numerical skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous insurance experience within leading insurers
  • Professional insurance qualification (ACII or CPCU) preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to establish credibility/rapport with stakeholders globally and in a virtual environment
