Claims Analyst

Our client is a Bermuda-based captive insurance group providing multiple line commercial insurance to a global network of financial services firms.   

Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, and working closely with the Legal & Claims Team, the Claims Analyst will be responsible for coordinating directly with worldwide member firms around all new claim notifications, quarterly claims updates, and the processing of claim reimbursements.  The Claims Analyst serves as an intake officer for new claim notifications and is responsible for reviewing and identifying coverage issues and preparing preliminary claim summaries.  Also working closely with the company’s external actuaries, the Claims Analyst will prepare regular summary reports for the company’s management, governance oversight bodies and commercial reinsurers.   The Claims Analyst will be expected to support the Legal & Claims Team working with the Underwriting Team in an administrative capacity as part of the annual policy renewal process.   

Ideal Qualifications, Experience and Aptitude:

The role could be suited to a Claims specialist, or to a professional working within the re/insurance industry, with transferable skills.  The ideal profile and aptitudes will include:

  • Bachelor level university or college degree;
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the insurance industry with a broker, insurer or reinsurer;
  • Professional designations including Associates in Claims and Associates in General Insurance would be an asset;  
  • Familiarity with professional indemnity, cyber, D&O or employment practices liability insurance;
  • While legal training is not expected or required, familiarity with liability insurance and litigation is an asset;
  • Technical and analytic ability to be able to track and monitor all stages of the claims process to ensure that they are operating efficiently, from notification to monitoring and reporting, to reserving, reimbursement and closure;  
  • Ability to analyze new claims notifications and identify potential coverage issues to the claims team;
  • Empirical skills to be able to work with actuaries in preparing and reviewing claims bordereaux and management reports;  
  • Comfort with tracking multi-currency financial transactions and proficiency using Excel or Google Sheets;
  • Comfort with new technologies and a willingness to learn new applications including business automation;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct oversight, while also working in support of a small team;
  • Close attention to detail and strong problem solving and organizational skills;
  • Willingness to work extended hours if necessary, and at specific times of the year at each quarter end;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with assured clients around the world concerning claim reporting and reimbursements; 
  • Willingness to take on a variety of tasks and adapt to any challenges that may be required in the role.
