Our client is a Bermuda –domiciled, specialist insurance company, writing US Casualty and professional lines business. The company has an excellent reputation for client service, underpinned by a strong management team.

Key roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the board of directors, the CEO will be responsible for managing the company’s Bermuda operations and for driving growth strategy in current and future markets. Core duties will include the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Bermuda office. Lead and manage in a way that maximizes talent, in order to achieve sound business results and a cohesive working environment;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the underwriting business;
  • Accountable to the board of directors, for the effective management of: underwriting, actuarial, financial reporting, accounting, compliance, risk management, and administration;
  • Ensure compliance with risk tolerance and management philosophy, guidelines and practices;
  • Identify opportunities to expand the business beyond its current mono-line status;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with U.S. and Bermuda brokers, and other key partners.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Significant (likely to be c. 15 years) broad, international leadership experience within the re/insurance industry or as a service provider to the insurance sector, including knowledge of U.S. casualty and professional lines markets;
  • Demonstrable operational management experience;
  • Experience in strategic planning and development or product development within the insurance sector;
  • Proven ability to understand and interpret international market trends and how to execute upon those trends to achieve competitive advantage. Business development experience in the USA would be advantageous;
  • Proven track record in leadership and executive level decision-making
  • Outstanding communications skills, capable of building relationships both within the organization at board level and externally with the insurance market;
  • Strong team skills, built around mutual respect, a collegial style and willingness to listen
