The Parliament of Bangladesh has recently passed the Invest Bangladesh Act, 20261 (the Act), which was published in the Official Gazette on 16 July 2026. The Act establishes the Invest Bangladesh Authority as the country’s apex investment development agency with the objective of attracting domestic and foreign investment, accelerating infrastructure development, facilitating public-private partnerships and providing investor services within a shorter timeframe. The Act has been made effective on 20 August 2026 by way of a notification in the Official Gazette.
Upon commencement, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, Public Private Partnership (PPP) Authority and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) stand dissolved, and their assets, liabilities, contracts, proceedings and personnel will transition to the newly established Authority, subject to the provisions of the Act.
