PwC US signs 15-year lease to occupy new office in Seaport Square

Move of 3,000 people coming as professional services firm plans for new modern workplace design


BOSTON, August 6 , 2013 – PwC US, the professional services firm and one of downtown Boston’s largest employers, announced today that the firm has made a major commitment to the region by signing a 15-year lease with Skanska Commercial Development for 333,000 square feet in a building to be constructed at Seaport Square in the Innovation District.  The firm will occupy 75% of the office space in the 17 floor building that will prominently display the PwC brand.

When the building is completed in late 2015, PwC anticipates relocating approximately 3,000 employees into the custom-designed workplace. Currently more than 2,500 PwC partners and staff reside at 125 High Street. In selecting the Innovation District, the firm studied traffic and commuting options, including access to Logan International Airport, and considered where its people live and where its clients are located.

In addition to making its commitment to the city, PwC is moving to accommodate its growth plans.

 “As our business and the businesses of our clients continue to evolve, we recognize that technology and the workforce of the future will change the way we work,” said Nearhos. “The new office design reflects this, emphasizing teaming, personal flexibility and efficiency. When we move, we will be a larger workforce that works smarter using less physical space.”

Nearhos noted that the new layout of the space will enhance team collaboration and offer "touch down desks" throughout all floors to cater to the mobile worker and aid in client service delivery. The building will also be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an innovative training floor with the latest media sharing and collaboration tools.

The firm is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and will have the new space built with energy efficiency in mind. Sustainable materials and furnishings will be utilized throughout the space and the architectural design will include energy efficient windows, while still allowing ample natural light and expansive ocean views on all floors.  Skanska and PwC will strive for Platinum LEED certification for the both the exterior and interior space, respectively, once the build-out is complete.

Employees will also have access to a fitness center and interactive cafés with lounge areas in the building as well as exclusive access to an ocean-view outdoor terrace on the fifth floor. In addition, the building will feature scenic views and ready access to ample green space.
