Donation to help local youth gain important skills to succeed in college and career
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., December 19, 2013 – PwC US today announced that its Minneapolis office has donated $50,000 to AchieveMpls, a non-profit youth education focused organization based in Minneapolis, funded through grants from the PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc.
AchieveMpls is a non-profit partner of the Minneapolis Public School system that focuses on offering thousands of students the resources, skills and social capital they need to attend college and succeed in a career.
As part of this donation, the grant will be divided in two parts with $25,000 being used to help expand on AchieveMpls’ programs, designed to mobilize individuals, businesses and organizations to support public education and $25,000 granted to AchieveMpls’ STEP-UP Achieve Summer Jobs program (STEP-UP).
The goal of STEP-UP is to recruit, train and place low-income youth in a wide range of jobs with Twin Cities businesses, non-profits and public agencies. This donation will help the program expand internships for low-income students and increase resources and trainings, including PwC’s financial literacy curriculum.
“PwC Minneapolis believes in the mission of AchieveMpls, and we are proud to support them with this grant from the PwC Charitable Foundation,” said Tom Montminy, managing partner of PwC’s Greater Minneapolis market. “We look forward to continuing our work inside the classroom with the support of AchieveMpls and the Minneapolis Public School system to help improve the financial competency and education of our local youth.”
Through PwC’s Earn Your Future commitment, PwC Minneapolis staff have invested more than 3,000 hours teaching PwC’s financial literacy curriculum in both Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools this year. In addition to working with AchieveMpls, PwC Minneapolis has partnered with Junior Achievement, The First Tee of the Twin Cities, CampFire MN, and Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis to bring PwC’s financial literacy curriculum to students in elementary school through high school.
Over the past year, the PwC Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 in grants to Minneapolis organizations, including: TreeHouse, The First Tee of the Twin Cities, AchieveMpls, CommonBond Communities and St. Joseph's Home for Children.
