GIS has grown to support a variety of business functions including asset management, integrity management, emergency response, environmental compliance, vegetation management, land management,  marketing , public awareness, and customer relations to name a few.  

GIS is no longer a departmental solution for mapping utilities infrastructure.   GIS has grown to support a variety of business functions including asset management, integrity management, emergency response, environmental compliance, vegetation management, land management,  marketing , public awareness, and customer relations to name a few. 

The next growth area for GIS is  true integration with other enterprise systems such as ERP, EAM, CIS, Mobile, and BI.  Based on our observations, utilities have only scratched the surface of how GIS can improve utility operations.
