In early 2014, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced the implementation of a “Phase 2” audit program to begin in fall 2014 based on the findings of the 2012 pilot privacy and security audits of payers and providers. In Phase 2, the OCR will conduct audits of HIPAA-covered entities, with audits for business associates anticipated to begin in 2015.
