Mission control: Third-quarter 2012 aerospace & defense industry mergers and acquisitions analysis

12/05/2012 by Aerospace & defense

Mission control is a quarterly analysis of global merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the aerospace & defense industry. Each edition includes a review of overall deal activity for the quarter and year-to-date, as well as a summary of large deals.

This quarter's analysis revealed:

  • The quarter’s big news was the near merger between EADS and BAE Systems, which would have created a $100 billion revenue company.
  • M&A activity remained restrained during the quarter, with overall deal volume declining. Deal value, however, increased.
  • Deal activity in the United States increased, with acquirers focused on a variety of targets.
  • Aerospace continues to be the major theme of sector M&A, with defense transactions restrained by uncertainty about the “fiscal cliff” and the future of defense spending.
