Shadowing experience - US Advisory Leader

Dan Todd, an Advisory intern from the Lake Erie market, had the opportunity to spend a day with US Advisory Leader Dana Mcilwain. During his experience, Dan spent time in meetings, on conference calls, and even got to sit down and ask questions one-on-one of Dana. A very important component of PwC's Internship Experience is providing interns the opportunity to shadow PwC professionals in their daily tasks to better understand what work on a client team can be like. Dan describes his day with Dana as the highlight of his summer internship - a truly humbling experience that helped him better understand the day-to-day responsibilities of a firm leader.

Shadowing experience - US Assurance Leader

As part of PwC's Internship Experience, a select group of interns had the opportunity to shadow a member of the US Leadership Team. Erica Esguerra, an Assurance intern from the Southern California market, was one of those interns. Erica was given the opportunity to spend a day with US Assurance Leader Tim Ryan. Erica joined as Tim hosted Webcasts, attended engagement team meetings, and the two even spent quality discussion time while stuck in traffic in a New York City cab on their way to a meeting with one of the city's largest banks. For Erica it was an eye opening experience and one from which she learned a great deal. Erica remarks that this experience will be extremely important to her as she looks to build a career for herself after college.

Shadowing experience - US Tax Leader

Spending time with a firm leader can be a very inspiring and exciting time for anyone; especially for Tax intern Florina Bacuta. As part of PwC's Internship Experience, Florina spent a day shadowing US Tax Leader Rick Stamm as he went about his day-to-day responsibilities. Florina and Rick started their day at 7 AM on a conference call with other tax leaders from around the world and ended it helping to judge a firmwide business plan competition amongst PwC professionals from across the US. For Florina her shadowing experience afforded her the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a leader at PwC. She was able to ask Rick about how he came to be where is he today and even received some words of wisdom from Rick about how she can become a successful leader in her career.

Shadowing experience - US Government, Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy Leader

For Kaine Kenerly, an Assurance intern from the San Francisco market, spending time in Washington DC with one of the firm's leaders was not what he had expected from PwC's Internship Experience. As part of Kaine's internship experience he was invited to spend a day in the country's capital with the firm's US Government, Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy Leader Laura Cox Kaplan. Together Laura and Kaine attended federal legislative task force meetings, met at the Department of Treasury, and Kaine even got to sit in on a new partner Webcast as Laura spoke with the US firm about the accounting profession and Washington DC. Kaine's opportunity to spend time with Laura was an extremely rewarding experience for him, and allowed him the opportunity to see how important it is for the firm's leaders to understand how the federal government's legislation can affect the accounting profession.

Shadowing experience - US Clients and Markets Leader

Understanding how PwC acquires and retains its clients is an important part of understanding what makes the firm successful. So when Allison Kim was asked to spend a day with the firm's US Clients and Markets Leader Greg Garrison she jumped at the opportunity. Allison, interning in the Assurance practice, didn't truly understand what it was Greg did before her shadowing experience because as an intern she spent the majority of her time learning how to serve her clients. But after a day full of client meetings, leadership conference calls, and a discussion with the firm's Chairman Bob Moritz, Allison had a better understanding of how each and every employee at PwC plays their part in helping the firm stay successful and continue to grow. Allison remembers her day with Greg as one she will never forget as she builds a career for herself.

Shadowing experience - US Chairman and Senior Partner

As an intern you might expect to see the leader of a firm on a video or during a Webcast, but never would you expect to be face to face with that leader for an entire day. When Wilson Roorda learned he would be spending a day with US Chairman and Senior Partner Bob Moritz he was beyond excited. As part of Wilson's shadowing experience during his PwC internship, he was given the opportunity to spend time with Bob in US firm strategy meetings, partner market update conference calls, and even in a meeting with the controller of one of the largest financial services firms in the world. Throughout his day with the US Chairman, Wilson saw first-hand how the firm builds, maintains, and acts as a trusted business advisor to its many clients. Wilson recognizes that he took away a lot of valuable knowledge from his day with Bob Mortiz, but the one thing that left the biggest impression on him was the level of effort the firm's leaders put into its people and their career development.
