Senior Associate, Advisory, Financial Management
Melanie started with PwC as a Start Intern in Tax HR in 2007 and again in 2008 in the Chicago office. In 2009, she completed an Advisory Client Service internship and joined PwC’s Advisory line of service as a full-time campus hire the next year. She was recently promoted to Senior Associate within the firm’s Financial Management Consulting practice.
Q: Tell us about your first Start internship when you worked in an IFS role in Tax HR.
A: Start is PwC’s way of tapping into diverse candidate talent. It offers internal firm service internship opportunities to candidates majoring in Accounting or Finance at a sophomore or junior level in college. This internship was the first of three with PwC and the experience I received was phenomenal. It not only was my first major entry into corporate America but also the first time I was given true responsibility, which was truly a rewarding experience.
Q: How was your experience with the Start program the following summer?
A: In the Chicago office, if you return as a second-year Start intern, they assign you to one of their non-profit clients. During this experience, I was able to apply what I was learning in school and receive true exposure serving external clients. PwC did a great job making sure the experience they provided their interns was valuable and that we had the required skill set to help their clients.
Q: What was distinct about your third internship with PwC in 2009?
A: My third internship allowed me to take control of the direction I wanted to take my career. Without the previous internships, I would have most likely gone into Assurance, but after spending time in Advisory, I knew from that I preferred consulting services.
Q: How has PwC helped you grow personally?
A: I think that the patience I’ve developed helps me to be more understanding of others and accepting of their perspectives. Also, after having worked within PwC’s high performing culture, I have learned to be more organized in my personal life.
