Trends in Mutual Fund Distribution: What Directors Need to Know

November 20, 2013

As mutual fund distribution models become more complex and diverse, oversight activities are challenging for board members. The pace of change regarding distribution channels, products and sales and cross-border activities in this area is rapid and board members have a fiduciary obligation to stay informed on current activities and to evaluate the activities of the advisor in light of rapidly changing investment trends. In addition, many asset managers are placing greater reliance on third-party financial intermediaries to distribute their products, often prompting substantial changes in existing operations. All of these factors make the board’s oversight role challenging. Our panel will discuss current distribution trends and developments, the regulatory environment, including areas of focus and finally what directors can do regarding oversight.

Audience: Asset management directors (serving as fiduciaries of mutual funds and/or investment management firms) as well as executives that interact with the board regarding the directors’ oversight responsibilities.
