The Regulated Investment Company Modernization Act of 2010 (the "Act") was signed by President Obama on December 22, 2010. The Act represents the culmination of the mutual fund industry's efforts in recent years to modernize various tax rules applicable to regulated investment companies (RICs or funds). Collectively, these changes are among the most significant to affect RICs since the Tax Reform Act of 1986.
