- AIFMD: How does this impact US investment advisers? - February 11, 2013
The Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) is coming. Any asset managers raising capital in Europe, managing European non-UCITS funds, or managing funds from Europe will be affected. Some asset managers may need to make significant changes to their structures and operations in order to comply with its provisions or to structure out to mitigate possible impacts.

The Healthcare and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 passed a 3.8% tax on Net Investment Income, effective January 1, 2013. Although this new tax is applied at the individual level, partners will require a thorough analysis of their "net investment income" from pass-through entities. The webcast provided an overview of the recently issued proposed IRS regulations and address the following issues pertinent to the asset management industry:
- Fundamental analysis of what activities are subject to the new tax and which components of taxable income constitute net investment income
