Swansea
With around 60 people, PwC Swansea is a relatively small and friendly office in the city centre. It is, however, the leading provider of Business Advisory services in the city. Three partners oversee the business, and there are usually around 10-12 people at any one time on their way to qualifying as chartered accountants or tax advisers. Some are from the area, returning after graduating elsewhere; others are graduates from elsewhere in the UK who either studied at the University here and liked the city so much they've decided to settle or have chosen to relocate to the area.
Diverse clients, diverse work
Together with our Cardiff office, we work extensively across South Wales and our portfolio ranges from small, growing owner-managed businesses, technology start-up companies - a number of which are closely linked to the local University - through to multinational companies. Sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, leisure and recreational, feature strongly. On the public sector side, we work with a large number of local authorities, NHS trusts and organisations in further and higher education.
Audit, Advisory and Tax are our primary lines of service, although, in conjunction with our Cardiff office, we also offer Business Recovery, Insolvency, Grant and Corporate Finance services. As a graduate trainee, you'll therefore have the opportunity to work across South Wales and learn about all kinds of businesses - and get to understand the different ways in which organisations and entrepreneurial businesses liaise closely with their professional advisers to help them achieve their objectives. As a consequence, you will operate in an environment where you will work closely with the owners of businesses.
We encourage all our fee-earners to be proactive in networking with the business community, through events at the Chamber of Commerce and other trade associations, as well as PwC-staged seminars and workshops.
Relaxed and sociable
At PwC Swansea, you'll discover a working environment that's professional, industrious - and fun with it. We hold an annual spring ball, as well as a joint summer ball with our colleagues in Cardiff, and a number of organised trips to the theatre and other nights out, enjoying Swansea's social scene. We also have 'official' and 'unofficial' Christmas parties!
We organise a party for our annual intake of new starters so that they can quickly get to know their new colleagues in an informal atmosphere; there are also celebratory drinks after each set of exams and exam results. For those who enjoy a regular kickabout, the office has a five-a-side football team - that last season came runner-up in the local league. And we do our bit for the local community too - with office-organised fundraisers as well as plenty of ad hoc individual initiatives, for which the firm matches donations and sponsorships.
Looking ahead, we've just moved to brand new premises on SA1 Swansea Waterfront, a modern development that's attracting new businesses to the city - creating more opportunities for PwC in the area and adding to our reputation as the leading provider of Business Advisory Services not just in Swansea but across South Wales. It's an exciting time to work in professional services in Swansea.
With congenial, close-knit teams, we're confident you'll make firm friendships here before too long. If you want to work in a happy, friendly atmosphere, with challenging work, outstanding support and lots of personal contact with clients, then consider PwC Swansea!
