Plymouth
Our Plymouth office is host to some 45 staff, with a dozen audit and tax trainees and a client portfolio under the stewardship of eight regional partners. Most of our workforce come from the town or surrounding Devon and Cornwall, although our location minutes away from the historic Plymouth Hoe and Barbican and proximity to superb beaches and the Dartmoor National Park, means we have our fair share of colleagues from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Greece, either on secondment or permanently based here.
Choosing Plymouth is as much a work-life balance decision for many of our people as it is a professional one - and as a warm, friendly office, we like being able to offer the best of all worlds.
Our business
Unusually, our client portfolio is split almost evenly between private and public sector organisations. We provide Assurance and Tax services to some of the largest local authorities and hospitals in the region, as well as organisations in further and higher education, and social housing.
Our private sector client base is predominantly manufacturing and retail, while we audit six of the 10 largest companies in Devon and Cornwall. In addition to Assurance and Tax, we occasionally carry out due diligence for transaction services work and grant assignments.
The South West has attracted significant inward investment in recent years - so as well as already having a substantial market share, the office has great growth potential - and we're highly proactive in developing new business. Students and graduates who join us will gain wide exposure to clients large and small across a wide range of sectors - gaining an insight into both how commercial companies generate revenue and manage growth, and how organisations in public services handle their finances and achieve value-for-money efficiencies.
Enjoying PwC Plymouth
The office may be small - but it has a thriving social calendar, the highlight of which is our 'annual tour', where staff set off on a (subsidised) weekend; this year, we travelled to Amsterdam, while previous destinations have included Prague, Berlin and Dublin, and even a cruise on the Oriana.
There are also occasional team-building away-days, and of course our annual dinner (to which other-halves are also invited) and a fancy-dress Christmas party. Sporting activities include a football team (which plays against clients) as well as staff-organised squash and badminton tournaments, and sailing days. A quarterly 'ladies night' takes in the theatre or meals out, and there are always a host of informal ad hoc events coming up. We enjoy a reputation within PwC for being an incredibly social office - and its one we like to keep up.
On the community affairs front, we stage around six events a year to fundraise for favourite local charities, the principal one of which sees the entire office take a day off to undertake a community project. This year, we could be spotted in the local press painting primary school huts, while staff have also participated in dragon boat racing, sponsored walks and Run for Life - with PwC matching whatever donations individual staff generate.
Where we are and who we are amount to superb reasons to join PwC in Plymouth. You'll have every possible advantage of working in a Big 4 firm - in a working environment that's highly personal and welcoming, and situated in one of the best locations in the UK.
From both career and lifestyle perspectives, we believe Plymouth makes perfect sense.
