Tax: Human Resource Services

Train in tax in PwC's Human Resources Services team, and you'll have the opportunity to help some of the world's leading employers devise tax strategies that impact on complex people issues.

What we do

Within Human Resources Services (HRS), PwC's tax professionals offer employers and employees in the UK and abroad a wide range of solutions - covering tax and social security, compensation and benefits, international pensions, immigration and employee share schemes and incentives. Advising clients on the complex tax implications for employees who are sent abroad to work and, in turn, when they return to the UK is becoming an increasingly important component of the work that we do.

Our people work closely with colleagues in other parts of the PwC HRS practice - professionals who are experts in areas such as communications, international assignments, equity, culture and change, compensation, regulatory, legal and process management. This means we can offer our clients an unmatched breadth and depth of expertise, both locally and globally - while offering you a rich variety in your work.

What you'll do

You'll work on a diverse range of projects across all sectors of the economy, providing vital support to more senior colleagues- from developing employer reward strategies to addressing environmental issues around how organisations can measure and reduce their C02 emissions. You'll learn about employment tax risk, employment cost reduction and employer social responsibility.

Projects are not purely tax-focused and will often include other areas such as HR, communication, negotiation, project management and employment law.

Some tasks you can expect to get involved in are:

  • Advising companies on managing the risk of HMRC compliance reviews
  • Supporting clients implementing innovative, tax-efficient remuneration strategies to motivate staff and generate cost savings
  • Researching advice for high net worth individuals on personal tax compliance, estate and capital taxes planning or trusts
  • Supporting teams that advise executives on investments and pensions management, or on how working overseas might affect their wealth
  • Keeping pace with the frequent legislative changes that impact on our clients
The scope of the work will be highly varied and fast-paced, allowing you to quickly develop a mix of technical and business skills.

Your technical training will involve study for the ACA qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).

Our culture

Working in HRS is all about variety, superb client exposure and strong team support - and we'll make a firm commitment to afford you the work-life balance you need. As one of the best-connected global HR advisory businesses, you'll also have ample networking opportunities.

Training & development

You'll develop your business and personal skills through formal training and through on-the-job experience, -working alongside experienced and talented people.

You'll enjoy outstanding development opportunities and we will provide you with as much variety in your work as possible with exposure to different clients, projects or areas of the tax practice.

Throughout your time in Tax, not only will you learn invaluable technical skills but also the ability to analyse businesses and see beyond a set of accounts, building strong industry knowledge. You'll become adept at project management, and develop a sharp sense for identifying business development opportunities.
