The work here is fast-paced, exciting and fun - giving you the chance to develop an expert knowledge of the dynamics governing the organisations and industries in which you'll work.
What we do calls for people with a range of qualities that enable them to provide first-class advice. They need to be market-savvy and have an ability to build relationships quickly and effectively. They have to think strategically - with an eye for opportunities that will define efficient outcomes, and make or save money for our clients.
Our clients are demanding - with millions or even billions at stake, our advice - the advice you could eventually be providing - is always absolutely critical.
What you'll do
Typically, you'll work as part of small, highly focused project teams, working together on anything from advising on the merger of two businesses, preparing a client for an initial public offering (IPO) to the stock market, to advising private and public sector clients on Public Private Partnerships or Project Finance transactions. Your responsibilities might include researching data as part of an investment valuation, preparing vital information for reports or meetings or conducting modelling exercises for the long-term deal structuring of projects. The project manager will rely on you for able, timely support from start to completion of the project.
As a dynamic business, we also regularly look out for new Corporate Finance business opportunities ourselves, whether with existing or new clients. Your work may involve information-gathering for a pitch - or even participating in a pitch presentation. At all times we will encourage you to cultivate an instinct for identifying such business opportunities yourself and to build a network both within and outside the firm to assist you in doing so.
Our culture
You'll find Corporate Finance a stimulating and rewarding environment in which to work and develop. There will be a steep learning curve and when the pressure is on the hours can be long. But people who flourish in Corporate Finance thrive on the sense of excitement which accompanies the hard work required to execute complex, high-value deals, and the sense of achievement they share is unbeatable.
There's also a strong sense of teamwork that comes from working intensively on potentially headline-making deals when the stakes seem unbelievably high. That makes for a combination of professionalism and camaraderie that drives job satisfaction for many.
And by the way, we have been known to celebrate successful deals with the same enthusiasm with which we worked to execute the deal. Our department is a true meritocracy and our star performers are well-rewarded.
Training & development
As a participant in PwC Experience, you'll benefit from a substantial investment in training and development. Through learning from more experienced colleagues, as well as the time you spend with the Career Adviser appointed as your mentor, you'll quickly develop the skills and competencies required to play a pivotal role supporting your project team, while gaining greater insight into how financial, corporate and government bodies operate.
You'll learn how to effectively negotiate and influence others, deliver effective presentations and write lucid reports - as well as developing vital technical skills such as financial modelling - through on-the-job coaching and more formal training courses.
As you progress, we'll endeavour to give you opportunities to spend time in different specialised teams in order for you to get the greatest exposure to the various potential routes your Corporate Finance career could take.
You'll study for the ACA qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), after which you'll have the opportunity to choose to specialise in a particular area of interest, which could just as easily be outside Corporate Finance in another area of PwC's business - or even work for us overseas.
