What we do

We support clients in the dynamic Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) sector, advising throughout the deal cycle from pre-deal planning to post-deal support. We help clients looking to make acquisitions, dispose of all or part of their business, refinance or list on stock exchanges through initial public offerings (IPOs).

Transaction Services is a market leader with a strong private equity and corporate client base. We consistently advise on some of the largest and most complex cross-border deals.

Our financial due diligence work helps buyers understand what will make a transaction successful. We thoroughly assess the financial position of a target company, key opportunities and risks, and potential deal issues/breakers. We also work for vendors, independently assessing businesses so that potential buyers can make informed decisions.

Our culture

The M&A sector is fast-paced and fast-changing. That makes Transaction Services assignments challenging but hugely rewarding. Given their multinational nature, we often need to work with colleagues from other parts of the business and offices in different locations. As a result, you benefit from a wide range of different experiences. And our great support network means there’s always someone more experienced to offer advice and coaching along the way.

About you

Our clients will expect you to be as driven and ambitious as they are. And we’ll expect the commercial awareness, investigative mind and flair for detail that underpin sound advice. You’ll work in multi-disciplinary teams, build lasting relationships and meet clients frequently, so excellent interpersonal skills are equally key. What’s more, our most successful people are flexible about the work they do and where they do it.

You'll also need a 2.1 in any discipline plus 300 UCAS points (or equivalent).

If you’re excited about helping clients maximise the value of transactions, and you'd like to combine that with a career in business, consider Transaction Services.

What you'll do

Our graduate scheme combines training in Assurance and Transaction Services. You’ll start off in financial audit, gaining the financial skills and commercial awareness you need to analyse and advise on M&A deals.

Here you'll carry out audits on anything from large multinational organisations to small entrepreneurial enterprises. Essentially, you’ll vouch for a client's accounts, assessing whether they are true and fair.

In Transaction Services, you'll help clients understand the business issues surrounding a transaction. Your work could include:

  • supporting business development activities, researching a company or specific industry sector
  • analysing the financial track record and projected performance of a target company
  • helping identify key risks/opportunities in mergers, acquisitions, management buy-outs, disposals
  • meeting and questioning target management
  • liaising with other advisers to the transaction (including bankers and lawyers)

Training & development

We invest heavily in your development from day one. You’ll get broad exposure to the wider Assurance business, gaining experience in audit alongside your client work within Transaction Services. You'll learn how clients in different industries operate – and about the various opportunities and threats they face. And you’ll build commercial awareness by getting "under the skin" of businesses during audits. All of this will develop the analytical skills and professional scepticism you need to advise clients on the key drivers of a transaction.

If you're to analyse financial information on behalf of clients, you must understand the numbers involved. That's why you'll study for the ACA professional qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales (ICAEW). The studies are rigorous and demanding - but we'll be right behind you, giving you full financial support and access to first-class tuition. When you qualify, you'll be a well-rounded business adviser, enjoying a real career head-start.
