Newcastle

With over 300 staff - including 23 partners and directors - Newcastle is one of PwC's larger offices in the UK, with an intake of about 20 graduates each year to traineeships - half tending to be from the local area and the remainder former students at Newcastle University who have decided to stay in the city.

Our business

We're proud of having an exceptional client portfolio, not just in Newcastle but across the North East, Cumbria and beyond. We have specialist industry teams focusing on a range of sectors - chemicals, automotive, central and local government, banking, private equity, health, higher and further education and housing. Our clients range from private individuals and entrepreneurial local businesses to foreign-listed blue chips and FTSE 250 companies.

Enjoying PwC

The office has a great social calendar - not just a lively Christmas party but organised activities that have recently included shopping trips, nights at the dogs, football tournaments, tennis days, barbeques and trips to the theatre. We have a dress-down day every Friday for local charities (raising around £4000 last year), and a netball team that plays in a local league and has competed at the UK Corporate Games.

We're extremely proud of our involvement in the local community; it's something that's regarded as highly important by partners and staff alike. Our activities focus on education - such as a partnership with a local sports college, a volunteer reading scheme and provision of career advice - and action days, which have included decorating a cat shelter and developing a children's playground.

Seasonal initiatives include Easter egg collections and Secret Santa for local charities, while we've also staged a fundraising fashion show and even a pantomime for local schoolchildren. We work with Business in the Community to help homeless people back to work, and have sponsored a football tournament for an ethnic minority community organisation. We provide grants to initiatives designed to prevent the social exclusion of disadvantaged young people in Tyne and Wear.

Such has been the success of our corporate responsibility initiatives that we've won numerous regional awards - most notably the North East Accountancy Award for Employer of the Year 2008.

We believe that Newcastle is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city to work and play in - the people here are passionate and friendly, and you'll find the same attitude and welcome at PwC.
