We have three different internships at PwC, available to penultimate year undergraduates and graduates:
Our summer internship programmes provide high-calibre, penultimate-year undergraduates with an opportunity to experience work and life at PwC, offering a valuable insight into our business and culture. We also accept applications from students who are in their final year of an undergraduate degree with a one year postgraduate degree place confirmed.
We can offer a limited number of internship opportunities in the same business areas as our graduate training programmes:
Whichever of these you choose, you'll be given a real taste of life at the heart of the firm, working alongside graduate trainees and experienced professionals on live and interesting client projects.
Our internships run from the beginning of July or the beginning of August for six weeks (except Strategy Consulting, which lasts 10 weeks). Opportunities are available at PwC offices across the UK. The dates for our 2010 internship opportunities are:
28th June 2010 to 6th August 2010
2nd August 2010 to 10th September 2010
About you
It doesn't matter if you feel that you're not studying for a 'relevant' degree - in fact, the vast majority of our business areas accept students from any discipline.
You will, however, need to demonstrate a good academic record and show how you've used your initiative and team-working skills prior to, and during university. We'll also expect you to have done plenty of research into your chosen business area, demonstrating a genuine commitment to that career path.
How you'll gain
As an intern, you'll be given much the same experience and opportunities as our regular graduate intake, with exposure to a wide range of work and clients. You'll be expected to make a valuable contribution throughout.
But you won't be thrown in at the deep end: the programme starts with a residential training programme, where you'll meet all our other 2010 interns. You'll be given general and specific technical training, designed to give you all the skills you'll need for your internship.
It'll be steep learning curve and you'll certainly feel stretched - but we'll provide all the support you need. You'll have a 'buddy' - someone who's 'been there, done that' on the programme before - to answer your questions, while you'll receive regular feedback on your performance.
Our summer internships are designed to give you a real-life view of what a graduate career with PwC would be like. You'll learn first-hand if this is the career for you. If it is - and you perform well - you may return to your degree with an offer of a job for when you graduate. In fact, 97% of our 2009 interns were offered a full time graduate position on completion of their summer internship.
Beyond this, our aim is to raise your commercial awareness and your interpersonal skills to new levels. By experiencing life inside the world's leading professional services firm, you'll develop many new skills and qualities that will be valuable for your future career, whatever you choose to do.
You'll need to be a penultimate-year undergraduate with 300 UCAS points (or equivalent) - 340 for Strategy places - and who's on course for a 2:1.
Work with us as a summer intern and you could find yourself arriving as a graduate trainee with the skills and insight to hit the ground running.
We have found that many graduates, while committed to the idea of a career in professional services with PwC, would prefer to take some time out before joining us on one of our graduate programmes full time. If this applies to you, you may be interested in completing a graduate internship.
These popular opportunities give you the chance to spend at least six months in the business, before leaving us for a few months to pursue another interest and, assuming all went well during your internship, returning to join us in a full-time capacity the following year.
Perhaps you have a plan to go travelling around the world, or maybe you would like to do some voluntary work. Whatever you want to do, knowing that you have already made the first steps in your career will provide you with added security, experience and, of course, a competitive financial reward. Find out more below:
Crucially, as a graduate intern you'll be like any other graduate joining one of these business areas. You'll undertake exactly the same work and be expected to make a useful contribution to a range of interesting and challenging client projects. We'll provide you with all the technical training you need, and a coach and buddy to support you throughout your internship.
We provide graduate internship opportunities in the following business areas:
Choosing Tax means joining the Tax Associate programme and places you in a great position to decide if Tax is for you. Whether you confirm that Assurance or Tax is the right business area for you, you will receive the benefit of hands-on client experience without having to study and sit the exams at this stage. Some graduate interns even decide to extend their internships, where it can be accommodated by the business.
If, during your internship, you perform as well as we expect you will, you will receive an offer for a full-time training contract, to return the following year to continue your career with PwC.
Our graduate internships for Assurance typically start in September, alongside our regular graduate programme. Within Tax, the start dates are flexible and run throughout the year. Opportunities are available at a selection of PwC offices all over the UK, giving you an even greater range of experiences to choose from.
Our graduate internships are available only to graduates who are committed to the prospect of a career in Assurance, or have thought seriously about a career in Tax with PwC. This means you should have the same academic qualifications, skills and qualities as we require for our Assurance and Tax graduate programmes.
Furthermore, while this opportunity provides you with a little more flexibility in the way you join us, you should take advantage of it only if you intend to return to the firm for the longer term.
To view the academic requirements, please see our Application Timetable page.
A graduate internship is essentially the same format as the first six months of the equivalent graduate programme; the application and selection follows the same process.
Please be aware that places are limited and fill quickly. We advise you to get your application in to us as early as possible, giving you the greatest chance of success.
Another option available to you, is to apply to join a regular graduate programme, but defer entry for a year. This will give you 12 months to pursue other interests, developing your character and building your confidence, safe in the knowledge that you have a guaranteed job to come back to.
