| What she likes about working at PwC: | I love the variety of work and clients at PwC. And one of the best things about the way things are approached here is the strong focus on ethics; that has made a big impression on me. |
Betty started in our Auckland office in 2003 before relocating to London with us in 2005. She's a Manager in our tax team.
The support I was given when I moved from New Zealand was great. It's been a challenging and exciting three years and I'm glad that I made the choice to come to London with PwC - as I've been able to travel around Europe while having a secure job with the firm.
Business development is a big part of my role - I am a core member of the China Business Centre, which is part of the Emerging Markets group. Because of my role, I get to travel to China to meet various businessmen and government officials on a regular basis, which I enjoy. My daily job is not just about delivering accurate and practical tax advice to clients but also identifying opportunities and providing value-added services to our clients.
I've taken advantage of some great training opportunities in London. On top of regular tax technical sessions, courses on making an impact and developing influencing skills have been very useful. Also, you get to meet people from other parts of the firm, which I also enjoy. Our presence in London is huge, so there's never a shortage of new people to bump into or network with.
I love the variety of work and clients at PwC - my clients include a construction group, an online gaming company and a number of banking organisations. But coming up with workable solutions is immensely satisfying. And one of the best things about the way things are approached here is the strong focus on ethics; that has made a big impression on me.
As a manager now, I supervise and coach graduate trainees. That's a really satisfying part of the job - they're an energetic and clever bunch; they keep me on my toes. It's rewarding to watch their progress and know I've played a small part at a crucial stage of their career - maintaining their enthusiasm and helping them to develop so that they can really develop and grow with PwC. That's a great take-home feeling to get from a job.
