In this seminar, PricewaterhouseCoopers will address the principle technical and practical areas which may be of particular relevance to your business (i.e. enterprise law, labour law, taxation, accounting and auditing laws, and incentives available, etc.), as well as explaining the nature and effect of VAT and the implications which its implementation may have for your business.

Types of business vehicle available for foreigners in the Lao PDR

The appropriate form of legal entity for engaging in business in the Lao PDR is often a key question for foreign investors. The Enterprise Law is the principal law governing the various forms of juristic persons which may be registered in the Lao PDR and the registration procedures for them. We will also address the rights and duties of shareholders and directors of a company under the Enterprise Law.

Labour Law Compliance

The workforce is the foundation of every business and it is therefore essential that every company is fully aware of the laws and regulations relating to this resource. Most employers and employees, whether as individuals or through a labour unit, have a good understanding of their responsibilities and rights. However, in practice there may be areas that have been overlooked or of which those not well acquainted with Lao labour law may not be aware.

Taxation and VAT

The recent major change in law to introduce value added tax (VAT) will affect many businesses in the Lao PDR. Compliance with the statutory requirements will require an understanding of the key provisions of such law and practice.

Accounting and Auditing Laws

Accounting and auditing laws have been promulgated and we will address this principal statutory requirements and provisions.
