Singapore, 16 May, 2011 – PwC announced that Dr. Ronald Ling has joined the firm as a Managing Director, Healthcare and as the East Asia/Southeast Asia Healthcare Leader, based in Singapore. Dr. Ling, who initially trained and worked as a medical practitioner in the United Kingdom, has nearly two decades of experience working with healthcare organisations and other companies in Asia and the U.K. He has helped to develop and finance some of Asia’s leading hospital, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Ling recently concluded 10 years with Symphony Asia (formerly Schroder Capital Partners), a private equity firm which has makes long-term investments in several sectors, notably healthcare. As a Principal then Partner, Dr. Ling held leadership roles with responsibilities across the lifespan of deals, including origination, evaluation, closing, post-investment monitoring and exit. He also served on the boards of several listed investee companies, including Singapore-based Parkway Holdings, which he helped transform into SE Asia’s premier private hospital group.
Previously, Dr. Ling served as General Manager, Strategic Planning and New Business Development, for Parkway Group Healthcare, evaluating healthcare investments and expansion opportunities throughout East Asia and coordinating performance enhancement initiatives across the group. Formerly, he spent 5 years based in London with McKinsey & Company, where he developed major strategic and change management programs for leading multinational companies in the pharmaceutical and other industries across Europe and the US.
Early in his career, Dr. Ling served with the National Health Service in the U.K., where he was a doctor in two 500-bed hospitals with responsibility for first on-call assessment of acute medical and surgical admissions and ensuing medical and post-operative care.
Across East and Southeast Asia, a convergence of economic trends, government policies, and greater awareness among the general population of healthcare issues has created an environment that is poised for dramatic growth and change. The opportunities for Asia’s healthcare organisations to forge new partnerships and collaborations, both inside and outside of traditional boundaries, are vast as countries search for the best way to finance, organise and deliver healthcare with the right balance of quality, cost and access.
Dr. Ling holds an M.B.A. degree from INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau, France; a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree from St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School, University of London, where he held London University/Mary Ida Henderson Scholarships; and a M.A. degree in Physiological Sciences from Oxford University, with first-class honors, where he held an open scholarship and won a top dissertation prize for his work in neurophysiology.
