On 3–4 October 2008, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) participated in the Twelfth Annual Sakhalin Oil and Gas Conference, held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The conference was supported by the Sakhalin Administration and Alexander Khoroshavin, governor.
PwC presented at the conference and was one of its Platinum Exhibitor sponsors. PwC is also the Sakhalin Administration’s information partner and a contributor to the Sakhalin reference guide project; it has already provided the administration with its section of the guide, “Doing business on Sakhalin”. All conference participants received a PwC map of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – the first ever to highlight the downtown area’s attractions (business, theatres) in detail.
Supported by the Russian government and such oil and gas majors as Gazprom and Rosneft, the Sakhalin Oil and Gas Conference focused on the opportunities and issues facing the oil and gas industry in Sakhalin and its markets in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference was designed to allow the industries’ biggest players to discuss the progress of regional projects and explore obstacles to the region’s development.
On day one of the conference, PwC Russia Tax Partner Denis Gorin shared his vision of the prospects for downstream development in the Far East. The conference provided an excellent opportunity for PwC participants to meet with the heads of all the major oil and gas companies that operate in Sakhalin, as well as their subcontractors.
