This Guide has been prepared for the assistance of those interested in doing business in the Philippines. It does not cover exhaustively the subjects it treats but is intended to answer some of the important, broad questions that may arise. When specific problems occur in practice, it will often be necessary to refer to the laws, regulations and decisions of the country and to obtain appropriate accounting, tax and legal advice.
The material contained in chapters 1 to 12 of this Guide was initially assembled at 31 December 2009 except for Chapter 4 on the Board of Investments (BOI) incentives portion which reflects updated information on the 2010 Investment Priorities Plans issued on 30 April 2010. The taxation material (chapters 13 to 24) has been revised to reflect changes introduced by Republic Act (RA) No. 9504, which took effect 06 July 2008. However, whenever available, some data in this Guide have already been updated to reflect 2010 Q1 figures. Thus, unless otherwise indicated, it is generally based on information available at 31 December 2009.
