Alumni profile: Cathy Manahan

Cathy joined the firm in 2003 as a director of the Tax group. When retired from the firm in 2011, Cathy found herself extra busy in fulfilling new roles and projects. She rejoined Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & De Los Angeles, Attorneys at Law as a Consultant. Twice a week, Cathy travels to Sta. Ana, Manila to serve in the Legal Aid Center of the UP Women Lawyers' Circle, Inc. or WILOCI. She helps deal with cases that involve women and children who are victims of violence and abuse and renders free legal consultation every Tuesday and Thursday at the WILOCI Center.

As another testament to her advocacy, Cathy authored the book, Know Your Benefits, launched last May at the UP Collge of Law. Published by WILOCI, the book encapsulates select socio-economic laws that will benefit children, women, solo parents, persons with disabilities (PWDs), overseas Filipino workers and more. The book provides key information on  the legal rights and benefits of these sectors, and, ultimately, empowering them to demand what is due to them under the law.

Cathy is currently winding up a project on a Training Manual for the Barangays which was an off-shoot of the book that  she wrote earlier. Truly, a lady with a big heart!

Despite her busy schedule, Cathy spends time with her family during weekends. She recently became a first-time grandmother to a beautiful baby girl named Julianne Faith.

For Cathy, life has never been more exciting or sweeter than now, a lola and an advocate for children's and women's rights.
