Heads up! Gear up! Planning your financial statements for 2014 and beyond

In a world of constant change, the accounting field is no exception. Year in, year out, we hear about new accounting standards being issued and old ones being amended. Every now and then, we receive notices from our local regulatory bodies about new guidelines in financial reporting that we need to comply with. In today’s world, especially with the upcoming ASEAN integration, keeping abreast with the developments in accounting and financial reporting is a skill that has graduated from “nice-to-have” to “must-have,” in order to prepare financial statements that are compliant with both PFRS/IFRS and the local regulations issued by the SEC.

This year, we, at PwC, will take you back to the basics of financial statement preparation, with focus on how to prepare specific disclosures such as fair value, financial risk management and the SEC-required disclosures. We will also touch on functional currency, the proposed amendments in the SRC Rule 68, as well as the common findings raised by the SEC in its review of the financial statements of registered corporations (as discussed in the SEC website). Finally, we will present what’s new in the recently-issued financial instruments standard (IFRS 9) and revenue standard (IFRS 15), impact of which is expected to cut across most industries.
