Our Worldtrade Management Services (WMS) Department participated in the Department of Education's (DepEd)"Brigada Eskwela"by repainting school chairs and tables at the Guijalo Elementary School in Caramoan, Camarines Sur last 23 May 2014.

Brigada Eskwela is an adopt-a-school program where volunteers help in cleaning and repairing school equipment and facilities before the school year starts in June. The team chose the school in Caramoan as part of the Tourism with a Purpose (TwP) program of the firm. Caramoan is also one of the top ten Philippine Gems.

The WMS team coordinated with the school principal, Ms. Lorna Lopez Berja,  for the repainting. With no help, the parents and kids themselves would have to repaint these and not have enough time to prepare and participate in the upcoming town fiesta.

Dennis Forhart, WMS director and Alejandro Saborio, WMS senior manager joined the entire seven-member WMS team in an 11-hour van ride to Sabang Port, two-hour boat ride to Guijalo port and a three-minute tricycle ride to the school. Materials and tools used for the activity include ten cans of brown paint, 20 feet of sandpaper, one kilo of nails, 18 paint brushes, one gallon of paint thinner and two paint pans.

The team was able to repaint 66 tables and chairs in barely three hours by dividing themselves into three groups.  Each group was assigned a grade level.  The team, with the help of some of the students sanded and painted the chairs.

"For our team, helping in the simplest ways was the most fulfilling of all. We were able to contribute something to the students of Guijalo by giving them a proper and conducive learning environment,"  said Margaux Pacheco, WMS Associate.

The school principal and the parents were very thankful. The community was very accommodating and even gave food and drinks to the team.  To show the school's gratitude, the school principal handed a Certificate of Appreciation to the WMS team before they left to explore the beautiful islands of Caramoan.
