With hearts full of compassion and hands ready to help, our Risk Assurance team donated and installed trash frames last 12 June 2014 at the Mahabang Buhangin beach in Tinaga Island. Tinaga is part of the Calaguas group of islands under the control of Vinzons town in Camarines Norte. This is the team’s response to the worsening waste management problem in the island resort.

The team assembled a total of ten trash frames, bought from a local supplier in Vinzons and shipped to the island. Each trash frame can hold two sacks of garbage, one each for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste products. These were done in cooperation with Mr. Ariel Era, Barangay Captain of Mangcawayan, and Mr. Leonilo Pajarin, acting Tourism Officer of the Municipality of Vinzons.

Risk Assurance members divided themselves into ten groups and covered each trash frame with a tarpaulin promoting environmental awareness and stewardship through proper waste management and coastal preservation. They then installed the trash frames strategically in different parts of the beach. Risk Assurance Leader Gett Apostol led the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and presentation of the Certificate of Donation and the turnover of spare garbage bags for the barangay's use.

In line with their TwP activity, the group also conducted a coastal clean-up. They segregated the trash and placed them inside the trash frames.

Mr. Pajarin and Mr. Era both expressed their sincerest gratitude to the firm for naming Calaguas as the top Philippine Gem. According to them, this recognition significantly helped boost tourist arrivals in the island. The rise in visitor numbers translated to more livelihood opportunities to the local residents. They were also grateful that the group helped influence the community in preserving the natural beauty and cleanliness of the island through their TwP activity.

Calaguas Islands topped the Philippine Gems project, our firm's campaign of rediscovering the country's natural assets.
