PwC Philippines, BCYF launch the Developmental Social Enterprise Awards

Alex answers questions from the media during the launch of Developmental Social Enterprise Awards jointly presented with the Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation (BCYF). Joining Alex is Assurance Partner and Corporate Responsibility Leader, Gina Detera, BCYF Chairman Antonio Yap and BCYF Program manager and social entrepreneur, Noreen Bautista.

Isla Lipana & Co., the Philippine member firm of the PwC global network, and CSR thought leader Benita & Catalino Yap Foundation (BCYFoundation) jointly launched the Developmental Social Enterprise Awards (DSE Awards), recognizing Filipino businesses committed to social objectives through its enterprise activities.

The DSE Awards cites enterprises embodying the values of citizenship, sustainability and social responsibility, as well as those that put central importance on human dignity.

Alexander Cabrera, Chairman and Senior Partner of Isla Lipana & Co., said: “We believe that the DSE Awards will be a new venue to showcase Social Enterprises that are committed to delivering impactful ways to solve social challenges. We want to be part of their growth and be part of that solution by providing developmental opportunities to these enterprises.”

Antonio Yap, Chairman of the BCY Foundation says: “We are much honoured to partner with PwC Philippines in encouraging the growth of the social enterprise sector, which we think will also be a key player in the national development of the Philippines.” He adds: “It shows our Foundation’s commitment to creating innovative social solutions through responsible business, sustainability, social responsibility, environmental stewardship and social entrepreneurship.”

Social enterprises (corporation, partnership or individual) in the Philippines that have operated for two to five years may enter the DSE Awards through its website until 14 October 2014. A screening committee, composed of judges from various sectors such as the academe, social enterprise sector, government, private business and media, will select the finalists and top winner. The awards ceremony will be held in December.
