Highlights de Perú

2008 was a favorable year for the Peruvian economy as it continued to show rapid growth despite the global financial crisis originating in the United States and the volatily of high prices. This economic growth was sustained mainly by buoyant domestic demand caused by increased consumption and both public and private investment.

Social instability continued during 2008, causing strikes primarily in the mining and agricultural sectors. However, sustained economic growth has improved social conditions.
