New Zealand is now technically out of recession, and there are good indications that the global economy is finally beginning to creep out of a downturn unprecedented since the Great Depression.

The latest PricewaterhouseCoopers Asia Pacific M&A Bulletin indicates that Asia is leading this return of confidence. In the last six months, Asian bourses, ex Japan, gained over a third of their values, with the Shanghai Composite topping the charts at a whopping 61% rise, erasing its 64% loss in 2008. Similarly, real estate prices in parts of Asia are now near their pre-crisis levels.

On the other hand the report warns that the world awaiting us at the end of the tunnel will operate on markedly different geopolitical dynamics and economic models. Hence, while the new reality is fraught with uncertainty and risk, it also presents significant opportunities for M&A.

The mid-year 2009 bulletin covers all the regions of Asia Pacific and talks in detail about future prospects for each industry sector.
