Formerly a senior officer with the Customs Department, Raja brings with him 34 years of indirect taxation experience. During his tenure with the Customs, he was part of the MOF/Customs Sales and Services Tax (SST) team responsible for drafting the SST law in early 90s. Raja was part of the delegation which visited UK, Netherlands and Singapore to study on issues on implementation of GST/VAT in those countries.
Raja had attended GST Masters Class in Australia in 2007. His key areas of focus include customs administration, import/export procedures, classifications, valuation, exemption/facilities, licensing and compliance matters including GST implementation where he is a regular speaker for seminars on GST. He is also currently the Convenor, Trade Facilitation Sub-Committee of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MICCI).
He represented PwC in the consultations with the Tax Review Panel on the proposed draft GST legislation. Raja also assisted several organisations to forward feedback and suggestions on GST implications to the Tax Review Panel, as well as worked with major clients on GST assignments.
