Head - Human Resources: 401/YP

Our client is a long-established Bank in Malta with a successful and consistent track record as a quality provider of financial services.

The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for the Human Resource function of the Bank. The role includes responsibility for the development and delivery of strategic and operational Human Resource services, and for working with senior management to build and maintain a strong, motivated and capable human resource team, in line with the strategic objectives of the Bank.

The principal responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing a recruitment and talent management strategy and appropriate learning and development strategy;
  • Developing and managing performance appraisal methods and processes;
  • Directing and participating in initiatives to maintain healthy employment and industrial relations;
  • Assisting in achieving optimum productivity through work force structure and organisational design.

The successful candidate should:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or similar;
  • Have a proven track record of Human Resource responsibilities with a minimum of at least 5 years in a senior position, ideally in a financial institution;
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and negotiating skills;
  • Have a detailed knowledge of relevant Maltese legislation;
  • Preferably possess a post graduate qualification in a related field.

Head - Risk Management: 402/YP

Our client is a long-established Bank in Malta with a successful and consistent track record as a quality provider of financial services.

The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for the Risk Management function of the Bank. The role includes responsibility for developing all aspects of an enterprise-wide risk management program with particular emphasis on financial risk analysis.

The principal responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • The identification and evaluation of key risk areas;
  • Development of financial risk management tools and practices;
  • Ensuring that the risk management framework and policies are in compliance with applicable regulations and strategic imperatives of the Bank;
  • Assume ownership of internal and external risk reporting requirements;
  • Monitoring and oversight of risks on a corporate basis.

The successful candidate should:

  • Possess knowledge of internal business processes within the industry;
  • Be well versed in banking regulation and risk management techniques;
  • Have relevant academic competencies in accounting and statistics;
  • Be able to demonstrate strong business sense and leadership skills;
  • Be able to work effectively both as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Have excellent communication and analytical skills.

Head - Cards Services: 403/YP

Our client is a long-established Bank in Malta with a successful and consistent track record as a quality provider of financial services.

The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for the Cards Business of the Bank. The role includes responsibility for developing a card strategy, driving the existing business and new initiatives, managing the smooth running of the card issuing and acquiring business lines as well as operations.

The principal responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning for and driving the cards business lines for achievement of growth targets;
  • The general management of the card operation, including the management of the card issue cycle, reconciliations, settlements, chargebacks and management of the relationship with third party service providers;
  • Managing the customer service desk for the timely provision of customer support and settlement of disputes;
  • Ensuring proper controls are in place to mitigate risks associated with the operation especially those related to losses from fraud and misuse of cards;
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and card membership requirements;
  • Taking a lead role in the testing and implementation of system enhancements and upgrades.

The successful candidate should:

  • Have a proven track record of responsibilities in a fully-fledged card operation handling various types of card products, ideally in a financial institution;
  • Be fully conversant with Visa and MasterCard operations, transactions flows and scheme rules;
  • Be able to identify various business risks associated with the operation and proactively provide mitigating solutions;
  • Be able to demonstrate strong business acumen both in strategy as well as dealing with suppliers and a clear understanding of current trends in cards;
  • Have sound project management skills;
  • Be strongly analytical and demonstrate good leadership and presentation skills.

Financial Controller - Reference number: 397/YP

A newly set up company involved in the energy sector is seeking to recruit a Financial Controller.

The post calls for a dynamic individual who is expected to have a proven track record in both finance and corporate management. He or she will be expected to lead the development and delivery of an efficient and effective finance function including the
implementation and maintenance of financial policies and processes to the highest accounting and regulatory standards, and supporting the business and its staff. The candidate must possess strong analytical skills, and a tenacious and proactive attitude is considered indispensable in addressing the challenges of this position.

Reporting to the General Manager, the responsibilities of the Financial Controller will include:

  • Participating in the delivery and management of financial contracts and services, including financing, and renegotiating and/or renewing as necessary;
  • Running the finance department to provide management reports, financial planning and other information for Board perusal;
  • Managing the development and operation of the Company’s accounting and internal control systems;
  • Advising on the use of derivative instruments to minimise the exposure to unfavourable volatility in international commodity prices and exchange rates;
  • Liaising with the General Manager to review achievements and discuss required changes in targets and/or objectives;
  • Working closely with external auditors and regulators to ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations and laws.

The ideal candidate must be a warranted accountant with a recognised accountancy qualification with at least five years experience in a similar position. A commercial outlook, strong but diplomatic communication skills, a deep understanding of derivative instruments, together with IT proficiency will be considered as assets.

Accounts Officer - Reference number: 398/YP

A newly set up company involved in the energy sector is seeking to recruit an Accounts Officer.

Working under the direct supervision of the Financial Controller, the Accounts Officer will be responsible for maintaining the company’s accounting records up to trail balance stage and assisting in the preparation of accounts and other related reports.

The main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Maintaining of day-to-day accounting records;
  • Processing payments to creditors (including online banking);
  • Handling of Petty cash;
  • Reconciling of creditors’ statements;
  • Updating debtors/creditors details in system;
  • Preparation of reports.

The post calls for an enthusiastic, practical, self-motivated person, who has had a few years’ experience in a similar position. Preference will be given to candidates who are registered students of a recognised accounting body, e.g. ACCA, MIA. Good communication and interpersonal skills along with familiarity with office based computer applications such as MS Excel and Word, would be considered an asset.
