Financial Focus 2011

In 2010, the Kenyan banking sector recorded impressive growth with total assets estimated to have grown by 25%. As this edition was going to press, no banks had yet announced their annual results but we expect to see signifi cantly improved results for most banks compared to last year.

The prospects for the Kenyan economy appear positive, with economic growth expected to hit the 6% mark in 2011.

We therefore expect that the current growth momentum in the banking sector will continue through 2011. We still hope that the long awaited Banking Bill will be brought before parliament during the year in line with The Finance Minister’s promise at the last budget speech to fast track this and other similar bills.

The prospects for the Kenyan economy appear positive, with economic growth expected to hit the 6% mark in 2011.
