Kuria Muchiru

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the giant professional services firm, has appointed Mr. Kuria Muchiru as Country Senior Partner effective 1 July 2009. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Muchiru served as the Regional Chief Operating Officer as well as a Client Service Partner in Kenya. He takes over from Mr. Charles Muchene, who has led the Kenya business for the last eleven years. Announcing the management appointment, Senior Regional Partner and CEO, Mr. Philip Kinisu described the leadership change as a normal transition. He stressed the firm's objective to be agile in face of challenges in the business environment to ensure that PricewaterhouseCoopers sustains its dominant position in each of the markets it operates. He expressed confidence that with Mr. Muchiru at the helm, the firm would continue to provide distinctive services to its clients. Kuria Muchiru brings to his new job a wealth of experience gained over the last 25 years he has worked for the firm, 13 of these as a partner serving both in Kenya and the Africa Central region. Commenting on his new position, Kuria said, ‘It is an honour for me to be given the opportunity to serve our firm and clients in this capacity during these times of change and challenges. I start from a solid foundation having a portfolio of premium clients and talented people - with these, I am confident that we shall continue to serve our clients even better and to grow as a business." Mr. Kinisu, the Regional CEO says of Mr. Muchiru: “During his 13 years tenure as partner, Kuria has distinguished himself as a strong leader with his effectiveness and passion. He takes on the job at a time when we must succeed in the market and continue to grow the business. I am confident that he will rise to the challenges. ” Charles Muchene, the outgoing Country leader, plans to retire at the end of June 2010 after a distinguished 30 year career with the firm; 18 of these as a partner. During his tenure Mr. Muchene has overseen several developments at the firm among them, successful merger of the legacy firms, impressive business growth and creation of a strong brand. During the transition period, he will continue to work with his clients and support the CEO on regional strategic activities. Thanking Mr. Muchene for his contribution, Mr. Kinisu said: “I sincerely thank Charles for his immense contribution as Country Leader over the last 11 years. The strong firm we have in Kenya today is testimony to his diverse skills and tireless efforts. He has been a superb ambassador for PwC and under him, we have built a strong and successful business and the incoming leaders have a solid foundation to work from.”
