PwC is a strong brand in our markets and we have a responsibility to show leadership, both as a business and as a community member. We are committed to making a positive difference, based upon our core competencies and values.
The Africa Central corporate responsibility programme was launched in July 2008 in line with global PwC objectives. Since then, we have embedded corporate responsibility into our strategy, focusing on education and community issues as well as health issues and famine and disaster relief.
In all of our markets, a considerable number of PwC staff participate in corporate responsibility projects and willingly donate generously. Many of these donations are matched in kind by PwC firms.
Kenya
Located in Mukuru slum, east of Nairobi, Our Lady of Nazareth Primary School is an oasis of security for 1,500 students. PwC Kenya continued its three-year involvement with Our Lady of Nazareth Primary School in Nairobi by sponsoring secondary school scholarships for seven students and a prize-giving day.
Elsewhere in Kenya, the Mau forest has suffered massive deforestation in recent years. PwC Kenya participated in coordinated efforts to save the Mau by sponsoring a tree planting day. Over 80 PwC staff visited a recovered area of the Mau forest reserve to plant indigenous trees.
PwC Kenya also hosted a ‘lunch with the girls’ to support the Global Give Back Circle, which partners young women in Kenya with mentors offering support and guidance. PwC Kenya also sponsored the Safaricom-Nairobi Women’s Gala Dinner to help raise funds for gender violence victims at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
