Unlocking potential 

2011 saw the launch of the "unlocking potential" initiative jointly run and developed by PwC Channel Islands and the Guernsey Careers Service (GCS). The programme had two aims, firstly to facilitate a more collaborative working between the numerous community and business shapers who can influence the islands approach to addressing employability challenges and secondly to give relevant practical support to local students to help them unlock their employment potential.

The program was a success with a number of initiatives being jointly run during the 2011/2012 period. 

Following on from this initiative, GCS and Skills Guernsey are developing a project this year around employability and helping young people identify the competences that are required to be successful in the workplace. The scope of the project at present involves running a series of workshops about employability and how best for post 16 and year 11 students to develop these employability skills in order to make them more attractive when applying to companies and at interview.

PwC Channel Islands are actively supporting the above and a number of our staff are assisting with the workshops that are currently going through the pilot phase.

We continue to have a good relationship with GCS and they can be assured of our support on employability initiatives going forward.

Sports sponsorships

We also run a number of Sports academics, (formerly known as Schools of Excellence) which provide funding to facilitate delivery of additional coaching, equipment and match play opportunities for promising your sports people. In Guernsey, there are academies for netball, cricket and hockey, and together they have developed the skills of local youngsters. We also sponsored sails for the Guernsey Sailing Trust and have supported a number of local athletes compete at the Islands and Commonwealth games.
