You may be thinking more broadly about your options after you finish school or college. You’ll be pleased to hear that there are times when we can offer the opportunity for you to jump into the world of work if you have excellent A levels or International Baccalaureate results. Vocational and work based learning is an alternative for talented individuals who are interested in a career in accountancy. It is designed to help develop your business skills whilst undertaking a professional qualification.
As a student in Assurance you’ll begin by tackling basic areas of client audits, carrying out specific checks on financial records and making sure everything adds up. You’ll also test ‘controls’ (the systems a company puts in place to prevent errors and to detect fraud). Perhaps the best thing is the variety of teams and clients you’ll work with, the diversity of projects you’ll be involved in and the fact that you’ll spend much of your time on site with clients.
As well as enjoying plenty of practical, on-the-job training, you will be studying for a professional qualification with the ACCA and this usually takes around four years. We will give you study leave plus plenty of support, but you’ll also need to study in your own time too. However the hard work will be worthwhile once you have achieved your qualification. Plus the great thing is, by the time you complete your exams, you’ll have gained lots of valuable experience to build on.
