In December 2011, PwC had a collaboration with Gerakan Indonesia Mengajar (GIM). GIM was initiated by Anies Baswedan, rector of Paramadina University, who was named one of 2009’s Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum (WEF). In its 2011 year end special edition, Gatra magazine selected GIM as Icon of the year.
Our collaboration with GIM is another corporate responsibility (CR) initiative - an opportunity to share and contribute within the skilled volunteering area, using our core competencies. We are going to provide a pro bono audit for GIM that will enable GIM to learn about and enhance its financial reporting to be more accountable and transparent.
GIM does not simply encourage young people to become teachers. Through teaching experience it also provides a means for these young people to learn about leadership as well as to sharpen their social awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by the country - simply put, it gives them the tools for character building. And when these young people complete their teaching service, they can share this valuable experience in their workplace and thus inspire others.
