The next wave

As a strategic partner of the WEF, PwC provides State of the Debate briefing papers on the themes and agenda set by the World Economic Forum for the Annual Meeting at Davos. Offered to participants that include relevant decision-makers from government, business and civil society, these papers are designed to help jumpstart a discussion to address global, regional and industry priorities shared by all stakeholders.

With the present as troubling, confusing and volatile as it is, leaders in business and government are having a hard enough time looking ahead five days, let alone five years. And yet, those who would shape or profit from the future know one thing with great clarity: in the modern world, all great surges in wealth and opportunity are born when technological breakthroughs meet enormous unmet demand. The "next wave", unformed though it is, will take its shape from the churning waters we find ourselves in now.

What awaits us in the future?
